The 1st grade's artist of the week is
Chuck Baird was a
Deaf American Artist!
Baird would use ASL (American Sign Language) in his painting. For example, here is a painting he created of two hands making the sign for "America".
The first graders learned how to sign the word "TREE".
Then the same way that Chuck Baird incorporated Sign Language in his Art, we used the sign for "TREE" in ours!
Here is what they did!
First students traced their hands on brown paper.
Then cut them out and pasted them to the paper.
Then they began to render the trees and cut fringe into green paper for the grass.
Chuck Baird inspired ART!!!
