4th Grade Van Gogh's Bedroom!

This past week the 4th grade studied Van Gogh's painting Bedroom in Arles.

The objective was to learn perspective and some history on
Vincent van Gogh.

The students started out by tracing these cardboard square in the middle of their paper. Then drawing lines from the corners of the squares to the corners of the paper.

Then the students followed a directive drawing of standard furniture that would be in a bedroom. ex. bed, table dresser, door, window, pictures etc.

After that part was finished the students used their creativity to design the perfect bedroom. They could add any details they could come up with then add color.

Here are the finished pieces!!! I think we have some future interior designers in the class!!!

ANDY PARKER'S WEATHER MACHINE - Art Project - 2nd Grade

This 2nd grade art lesson at St. Mark School was inspired by one of ANDY PARKER'S - WEATHER MACHINE - Weather words of the day.

The word was "CIRRUS".

The word "CIRRUS" made Mr. Kreutinger think about how often students draw clouds in the art work we create in class. So he put together a presentation on the four major types of clouds:

CIRRUS - STRATUS
CUMULUS - CUMULONIMBUS

During Mr.Kreutinger's presentation the students took notes and wrote a description for the different clouds.

The first type of cloud they drew was the CIRRUS (the weather word of the day last week).
Cirrus clouds are wispy and high up in the sky. To create that wispy effect the students used oil pastels and gently made marks on the paper.

The next type of clouds we created were the STRATUS clouds.
STRATUS clouds are flat and look like a white blanket is covering the sky. To create these we used the oil pastels again but this time we pressed down harder to get the right look for a STRATUS cloud.
Then we made the CUMULUS clouds. These are the classic puffy clouds that students tend to draw in their artwork. To make these we used white paint!

Lastly the student created their CUMULONIMBUS clouds. these are tall dark clouds that can make thunder and lightning. We used gray paint to make our CUMULONIMBUS clouds!

Here are some finished pieces!

Help our school by submitting votes for St. Mark!

We want ANDY PARKER'S WEATHER MACHINE to come to St. Mark School!

Starry Night! 3rd Grade!

Last week the 3rd grade created ART that was inspired by the post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh.

We studied one of his most iconic paintings...
Starry Night!

First the students used violet and blue paint to create the main focus of the piece.

Then the students used yellow to create the stars, moon, and other highlights in the piece.

The the students used a light blue to create swirls in the sky. This made the painting really start to take shape!

Lastly, the students created the final details with the orange paint!

 All finished!!!

First Grade - Cat Silhouette

For this project the vocabulary word for the day was "Silhouette".

Silhouette - the dark shape and outline of someone or something visible against a lighter background

We decided to make this piece into a night-time Landscape with the silhouette of a cat drawn in the moon.

Here is how we did it!

First step is to glue the moon in place.

Then the students made a clear horizon at the bottom of the page by drawing grass.

Then the students followed a step by step directed drawing demonstration on how to draw a cat.

Finally, the students had an opportunity to create their own details. Here are some of the finished pieces!!!
